10th August 2026 Windsurfing: The Dip at Felixstowe Wind Direction: E Wind Stength: 15/20 Surf / Sea State: smooth and big out! Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 19.75 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 37.25 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Monday 10th August – Windsurf ***** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny periods and cooler. Foil – 19.75 knot max, 18.68 knot ave (spot PB)., 13.54 knot hour, 16.16 knot mile, 60.47 km., 13.54 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 5.75m. Walk ** - Landguard. After getting three pics in a row on the telly on the BBC I know I was pushing my luck today but I went out anyway to take some weather photos, a little later today at 6.30, I didn’t have any inspiration today so headed down to Felixstowe dock view point where I parked up and walked to the small wooden pier, this was definitely the best part of the day with light wind and sunshine with some cool clouds. I then headed to the Manor and snapped the beach huts against a backdrop of top clouds but my efforts were in vain but I had a good run! I had a message from fellow sailor Ian asking if I had plans to go to The Dip at 2 assuming the wind turned east and built, I replied saying I was keeping an eye on it and hoped to see him later. So had the usual morning at home breakfast in the garden with Mag and then my exercises with the temperature much cooler than of late as it had really clouded over! Windsurf ***** - The Dip. Exercises over I had a quick bite to eat and there was still no sign of the wind building but I loaded my foil gear into the van and headed to the beach dropping Mag off at Jaccobs Ladder for her second walk of the day and arrived at The Dip at 1.45 with the wind still very light! So I sat on steps and watched the world go by and then as if by magic the wind switched on from the East reaching 18 mph very quickly! My foil board was quickly on the beach and Ian arrived and said he would be using his 4.5 wing so I rigged my Bolt 5.75 which proved pretty much perfect! I launched at 2,45 and was out well over 2 hours in the end sailing 37 miles the only downside was there could have been more sunshine and the sea was pretty big on the outside! I did my usual long runs from a mile to two miles out. It was fairly smooth close in by the kite lagoon, I did have a long run sailing straight towards the Wadgate Post ending up opposite The Fludyers. I beat back and was hoping to see if I could sail into the Deben but it was further than I thought and I could not see the channel bouys so had some great runs in front of the kite lagoon where there was loads of kiters out now as well as several wingers and a solo fin sailor! Despite it being fairly rough it was lovely easy mellow sailing with the 5.75 which I love and I managed to stay on for most of the gybes, I was pleased to get nearly 20 knots with a PB average for Felixstowe and two good hours of over 13 and 12 knots so all in all a pretty good afternoon!
